Holiday lets

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is committed to making and keeping our communities safer, including holiday let properties.

If you provide holiday accommodation be sure that you are following the government’s closure advice as a response to COVID-19.

Businesses providing holiday accommodation (including hotels, hostels, B&Bs, campsites, caravan parks, boarding houses and short term lets) should now take steps to close for commercial use as quickly as is safely possible.

Further government advice can be found here

If you are staying open to provide a place to stay for people who have been in hospital and are ready to be discharged but are not ready to go home, or maybe to provide accommodation for NHS and other Keyworkers then your premises must still comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

For further advice about this matter please contact our Fire Safety team on 01298 608720 or email  and follow us on twitter @DFRSfiresafety.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) is committed to making and keeping our communities safer . With this in mind and the expansion of tourism in Derbyshire and the Peak District we have launched a ‘Tourism Campaign’ to address the fire safety requirements in self-catering holiday lets.

Owners do not always realise that when they let out their house as a self-catering holiday let, it must comply with the requirements of the Fire Safety Order. This may require additional fire safety measures to be taken.

To assist owners and managers of these premises, we have produced a simple guidance document which draws together existing advice and guidance into one easy-to-read leaflet. Owners and managers can use this so that they can check their compliance with Fire safety Law and are that they are keeping people who stay in them safe.

Fire Safety Guidance for Holiday Lets (pdf 636.41 KB)

This guidance can’t possibly address every fire safety issue and as no two properties are the same there will be times when the owners will need to speak to a fire officer.
