Zac, an On-Call Firefighter and employee at In2Frames in Staveley, is one example of an On-Call Firefighter, being wholly supported by his employer.

Whilst studying Photography and Digital Media at College, Zac started working at picture framing company, In2Frames.

“As Zac’s main employer, we wanted to give something back to the local community. By supporting Zac in his role as on-call firefighter, we feel we are going some way to achieving this.”

Being an active person with a passion for the Emergency Services, Zac looked into the possibility of being an On-Call Firefighter – being ideally placed as Staveley Fire Station is directly across the road from In2Frames.

Zac applied and started training amongst muscle-bound bodybuilders. Only being 17 at the time, it knocked his confidence slightly. Zac’s aptitude and determination to increase his fitness levels and be successful on the course paid off – he passed all stages and of all the applicants on his course, Zac was the only one to Pass Out and be taken on.

Zac’s hard work paid off and on Pass Out was presented with a special technical award, for achieving the highest overall mark in all exams.

Since becoming an official On-Call Firefighter, Zac has supported Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, his local community and wider communities through attending barn fires, RTCs, the Toddbrook Dam incident at Whaley Bridge, a dog down a drain, car fires and much more.

None of this could have been possible had Zac’s employers at In2Frames not been as supportive as they were, and are still.

In2Frames have said:

“As Zac’s main employer, we wanted to give something back to the local community. By supporting Zac in his role as an On-Call firefighter, we feel we are going some way to achieving this. There is nothing in Zac’s day to day work which cannot be “dropped” or covered by us when his pager sounds and the sense of pride we have for Zac is immense. It gives us great pleasure to have Zac give his time to assist Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and help protect the community.”

“When we were handed a plaque from Paul at DFRS to thank us for supporting Zac in his role as on-call firefighter, we were over the moon and incredibly proud. It’s displayed, in pride of place, in our shop so everyone can see it!”
