"If you are passionate about helping people and making a difference to their lives, then becoming a Community Safety Officer with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service can be one of the most rewarding career choices. I love my job because I make a positive difference to people’s lives every day. Having a caring and supportive nature helps. Good organisation and communication skills are a must, and you need to be able to liaise effectively with colleagues, management, and other professionals. Seeing the difference, you make every day will give you tremendous job satisfaction."

"This job is so rewarding and so varied, Yesterday I was working with partner agencies to reduce deliberate fires, today I was visiting people with complex vulnerabilities, tomorrow I will be visiting a school to talk to the Children, who knows what the day after tomorrow will bring?
If you would like to contribute to helping keep people safe, if you thrive on challenging situations and finding solutions, if you work well as part of a team but are equally confident to work alone, and, if you want one of the most rewarding jobs then this is for you."
-- Chris Lofley CSO
"This is a very varied role and rewarding knowing you are making a difference to people’s lives by keeping them safe in their home. It’s great working with Fire Service colleagues but also lots of partner agencies which you get to build good working relationships with. It’s very flexible and the role gives you opportunities to bring new ideas on campaigns, events and how to promote fire safety and reduce fires."

"Interview was thorough as I expected.
The job has been above and beyond what I expected and highly satisfying at the same time."

"Training and induction were great. I had never worked in a role like this before and felt supported and unafraid to ask questions if I was unsure, which is great as starting a new job can be scary.
The job has a lot of variety, and you are never bored, the days fly by and I can honestly say I have never had a day where I have clock watched. You most definitely get out what you put in, and the job is very rewarding. The role is fairly flexible which means you get a good work life balance, something I think is very important. There’s different training available so you can really challenge yourself if you wish to do so."
-- Lauren Batchelor CSO
"As part of the interview process I can remember doing a case study and having to highlight the possible outcomes and referrals that I would take after completing the visit.
I enjoy the role as I am never sat down for long! The role is varied and challenging. No two visits are the same and no two days are the same. The induction and training were thorough to cover and to prepare you for the various elements of the role."
