Trainee Firefighters charity hose run marathon

12 WDS 110 trainees stood to attention outside on training ground

This Saturday, 22 May 2021, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service’s latest trainee Firefighters will be completing a hose run marathon to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The event will see the latest trainees from Wholetime Trainee Course 110 rolling out, and rolling up, a 70mm Fire Hose to cover the same distance of a marathon, which equates to 1680 lengths in total. They’re aiming to raise £1,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity which offers specialist lifelong health and wellbeing support for all Fire Service employees across the UK.

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Gavin Tomlinson said: “Holding a charity event at the end of a new firefighters initial training course is a longstanding tradition for Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, and one that we’re delighted to see return after such an uncertain year of Covid restrictions.

“The Fire Fighters Charity is always there to support fire and rescue employees and their families when we may need them most, so holding these events is our way of saying thank you and supporting the charity ourselves.

“I’d like to wish all of the trainees from Course 110 all the best with the event which will be a physical and mental challenge, and hope they exceed their fundraising target.”

A Just Giving page has been set up to help the trainee Firefighters from Course 110 reach their goal of £1,000 at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wds110hosemarathon
