Pear Tree Road Fire – Fire Investigation Outcome

A fire investigation into the cause of a fire in a commercial property on Pear Tree Road in Normanton has concluded determining the most likely cause was an accidental fire starting in the commercial kitchen extraction ductwork.

Firefighters were called to attend the fire at 21.22 hours on Sunday 30 May 2022. Pear Tree Road was closed well into the evening to allow firefighting operations to proceed, and local residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke.

One resident living above the property was able to self-evacuate from the building before the arrival of fire crews, a second resident was out at the time of the fire.

At the height of the incident fire crews from Kingsway, Nottingham Road, Ilkeston, Ripley, Ascot Drive and Long Eaton were in attendance with the aerial ladder platform and command support unit.

Firefighters remained on scene into the early hours of Monday morning damping down the scene and checking for hotspots. The fire investigation commenced last night and reconvened earlier this morning.
