Derbyshire fire crews, supported by firefighters from Cheshire, Peak District National Park rangers, landowners United Utilities, Derby Mountain Rescue, local farmers and gamekeepers are continuing to work hard in challenging conditions to tackle the moorland fire near Errwood Reservoir in the Goyt Valley.
Using a combination of water back packs, beaters, fogging units, Argocat vehicles with high pressure hoses and helicopters, two large areas of fire have now been extinguished.
Firefighting is continuing in a central area where crews are damping down smouldering areas and checking for hot spots. Water is also being dropped by helicopter onto hard to reach areas.
A huge thanks once again goes to Greater Manchester Salvation Army volunteers as well as local businesses and residents who are keeping everyone on the scene fed and refreshed.
Moorland fires require a huge response and people are asked to keep this in mind heading into the bank holiday weekend.
The ground is tinder dry and the slightest spark from a campfire, a tiny burning ember from a BBQ, or a flake of ash from a discarded cigarette could soon escalate to a major incident so please act responsibly.
