At 20.51 on Sunday 26 May 2019, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to attend a large fire on Church Lane, Church Gresley.
Over 200 emergency 999 calls were received reporting the fire which involved a stack, approximately 50 meters x 50 meters, of pallets.
At the height of the fire, ten fire crews from Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire, supported by two aerial ladder platforms and two water carriers, attended the scene working to contain the fire and prevent any further spread.
Local residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed.
This morning, Monday 27 May 2019, fire crews from Long Eaton, Wirksworth, Duffield and Swadlincote remain on scene damping down and checking for hotspots.
Local road closures at the roundabout junction of George Street, Castle Hill and Church Street are currently in place with access for emergency service vehicles only.
A joint police and fire investigation into the cause of the fire will commence later today.
