Firefighters on scene at dangerous Structure - Simmondley Lane, Glossop

Firefighters are currently in attendance at a dangerous structure on Simmondley Lane, Glossop and are asking local residents to avoid the area.

Officer in Charge, Station Manager Ian Snodgrass said: “Fire crews were called just after 17.40 hours this evening following a call from a concerned local resident reporting a large crack in the gable end of the partially demolished church.

“Firefighters from Glossop Station remain at the scene providing lighting for the incident and maintaining a safe cordon around the church.

“I would ask that local residents avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident and bring it to a safe and effective conclusion.”

Simmondley Lane is expected to be closed well into the night and people are asked to find alternative routes. No local residents have been affected by this incident.

Firefighters are currently waiting for the arrival of Emergency Planning colleagues and structural engineers.
