The body of a man has been recovered from Torside Reservoir following an extensive search by Emergency Service partners. Tragically, this takes Derbyshire to three fatalities in open water this week, taking the national number to 14.
At 22:10 hours yesterday, 22 July 2021, crews from Glossop, Buxton and Greater Manchester’s Hyde Fire Station, attended Torside Reservoir, after reports of a man in the water.
Area Manager Clive Stanbrook said: “It’s devastating to be reporting a third water fatality this week. I would like to extend the thoughts and sympathy of everyone at Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service and to the family and friends of the deceased at this distressing time.
“I’d like to take the opportunity to once again remind people that water can be extremely dangerous due to the risk of cold-water shock and hidden currents or debris.
“Please remember Float to Live.”
