A fire investigation into the cause of a fatal fire on the 9 December 2020, on Walbrook Road, Normanton has concluded that the most likely cause of the fire was accidental due to an electrical appliance.
Crews received the call to attend the incident at 10:13 hours, and on entering the property, found one male occupant who was sadly confirmed deceased on scene.
Group Manager Steve Wells said: “It’s devastating to witness a second fire fatality due to electrical appliances in two days, and once again I’d like to extend the thoughts and sympathy of everyone at Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service to the family and friends of both gentleman.
“On the 8 December we responded to another house fire in Ilkeston, where sadly an 87 year old gentleman died following a fire also caused by an electrical appliance.
“I am sure people will be reading this and may be concerned for their own safety, or that of a relative. There are some simple steps you can take immediately – checking smoke alarms are working and that everyone knows how to get out of the home should a fire break out.
