Fatal Fire, Brighton Road, Alvaston

26/Jan/2018

At 00.50 hours on Friday 26 January 2018, firefighters from Ascot Drive, Kingsway and Nottingham Road attended a ground floor flat fire on Brighton Road, Alvaston.

On entry to the property firefighters discovered a 60 year old male who was sadly deceased.  Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the family and friends of the deceased at this distressing time.

Fire Investigation Officer, Station Manager Chris Smith said: “Firefighters were called to the property on Brighton Road in the early hours of this morning following a neighbour reporting the smell of smoke.

“Early indications are that the fire was accidental in cause, however the fire investigation into the cause of this incident is still ongoing.”

The property was fitted with a working smoke alarm which had been activated.

Firefighters and Community Safety Officers will be in the Brighton Road area today and over the weekend, offering fire safety advice and reassurance to members of the community.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people of the following fire safety advice and information:

  • Fit smoke alarms on every level of the home.
  • Ensure smoke alarms are tested weekly to ensure they are working.
