Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service saddened to learn of passing of former Fire Cadet

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is deeply saddened to learn of the death of former Fire Cadet Andreas Hickman-Vieira.

Andreas first joined the Service in 2018 through the Youth Engagement Scheme (YES) and enjoyed the experience immensely, so much so that he joined Fire Cadets that same year with aspirations of one day becoming a firefighter.

He continued with Fire Cadets during the Covid-19 pandemic and finally marked the completion of the programme at a pass out ceremony in 2021.

Andreas had been battling a rare form of cancer since last year, but unfortunately it became too aggressive, and he was taken to Nottingham Queen’s Medical Centre in September for end-of-life care.

He tragically passed away last week aged 20.

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Gavin Tomlinson said: “I know Andreas had a huge impact on those that he knew and worked with within Derbyshire and the wider community.

“He was always there to lend a helping hand at station events and I’m sure he will be remembered for his big heart and fun sense of humour.

“Our thoughts are with Andreas’ family at this extremely difficult time, and we will support them as much as we can as they continue to grieve his loss."
