Crowden Moor Fire - Incident Update

The fire at Crowden Moor near Glossop is now believed to be out. 

At 18:57 hours on Thursday 10 April, firefighters from Glossop, New Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Bradwell, Hathersage, Whaley Bridge, along with water carriers from Buxton and Clay Cross, responded to a wildfire on Crowden Moor,

The Mountain Rescue drone team and National Highways were also in attendance. 

Firefighting continued late into the evening until darkness, with fire crews and partners returning to the area this morning (Friday 11 April) to continue tackling the fire.  

The fire, which involved approximately 4,000 square metres of woodland and conifer, was extinguished using water backpacks, hose reel jets and argocats. 

Fire crews remain on scene as work gets underway to remove the firefighting equipment that has been supporting firefighting operations.

Everyone working to resolve the fire has also been supported by the Salvation Army.
