Scrap yard fire in Old Whittington - Update 12.32 hours

Crews are beginning to scale back from a fire at a scrap yard on Armytage Industrial Estate, Station Road in Old Whittington, Chesterfield.

At 06.10 hours this morning, 13 February, Firefighters from Chesterfield, Staveley, Matlock, Clowne, Clay Cross with the water carrier, and Long Eaton with the command support unit, were initially mobilised to the incident alongside South Yorkshire's Lowedges and Birley, and Nottinghamshire's Mansfield fire stations.

Seven fire crews remain on scene damping down and checking for hot spots.

Neighbouring businesses were evacuated due to the smoke. Thankfully, there were no injuries as a result of this incident.

Local residents are still advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke. People are also reminded to avoid the area.

Crews are in attendance from: Chesterfield, Long Eaton, Bolsover, Crich, Belper, Clay Cross and South Yorkshire's Birley
