Youth Engagement Scheme (YES! Compacts)

YES! Compact

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service Youth Team

Our Youth Officers deliver a variety of high quality youth projects. They use an agreed programme of work to address current issues and create opportunities for young people's personal, social and educational development.

Our Youth Officers have a thorough knowledge of the Childrens Act 2004 and support and promote the safeguarding of young people in line with the Services Safeguarding People at Risk Policy and Procedure.

YES! Compact (Youth Engagement Scheme)

We deliver our very own Youth Engagement Scheme (YES! Compact) which is a partnership project led by Derbyshire Fire & Rescue service. YES! Compact courses are targeted at young people aged 13-16 years who may have low self-esteem, be at risk of exclusion, disengaged with education, or may be young carers. The YES! Compact programme is currently run over 1 week in 5 session, with an additional day set aside for First Aid Training. In its new format, the scheme works with individual schools or agency's utilising additional specialist skills from partners such as Derbyshire Constabulary and St John's Ambulance to meet the needs of each group.

Through a mix of practical and classroom activities the students gain an understanding of Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service's 'drill type' activities and our partners help deliver a wide variety of other units that are aimed at improving the students self-confidence/self-esteem and promote teamwork and mutual cooperation.

Through the YES! Compact course we also aim to contribute to the following outcomes:

  • Reduce anti-social behaviour
  • Improve school and work placement attendance levels
  • Develop an understanding and appreciation for the communities in which the young people live
  • Develop an aspiration for a more positive future

If you want to find out more about these schemes or if any are running in your area, please contact a member of the Youth Team at our Prevention & Inclusion Department on 01773 305448 or email us at P&IYouthTeam@Derbys-Fire.Gov.UK
