School Education - Programme & Resources

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is committed to providing our communities with fire safety education and information. We have an ambitious programme which targets all Year 2 and Year 6 school children across Derby City and Derbyshire County, to educate them about the importance of fire safety in the home and how to avoid accidental fires.

We have designed a package which uses interactive resources and actively involves the pupils in the learning experience, to ensure they take home the important fire safety messages that we teach.

The key messages include:

  • The role of the Fire Service
  • Fire safety hazards in the home
  • The importance of smoke alarms
  • Planning a safe escape plan
  • Hoax and Arson

The lessons will be delivered by a trained Community Safety Officer and take an hour per group.  All pupils are given a worksheet at the end of the lesson to complete with their parent or guardian to encourage the whole family to make an escape plan.

To book fire safety talks for Year 2 and Year 6 pupils please contact your Area Office (South Area - 01332 777850, West Area - 01298 608720 or North Area - 01246 223500) or by email at:
