Become a Firefighter

The role of a Firefighter is varied and fighting fires is only one part. Firefighters deal with many other incidents including road traffic collisions, chemical accidents, floods, and animal rescues. A great emphasis is placed on educating the local community on fire prevention and safety.

Wholetime firefighter

Wholetime firefighters in Derbyshire currently work on either a wholetime, day staffed or day crewing station working an average of 42 hours per week.

On-call firefighter

On-call firefighters are members of the community who are paid to respond to emergencies. They do not staff the fire station 24 hours a day like full-time firefighters on the whole-time duty system.

Awareness days

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) hold awareness days which are designed to give an insight into the recruitment process and the diverse role of a Firefighter.

There is clear evidence that sprinklers can be effective in stopping fires spreading and putting them out.

Blue Light Aware

The crews of emergency service vehicles rely on the help of other road users when they are on a blue light journey.

Biker Down

Biker Down is a 3 hour course covering accident scene management, first aid and the science of being seen.
