Building Cladding Fires

Request

In the wake of the fire at Grenfell Tower, we are collecting data about the number of fires recorded in which cladding contributed to a building fire.

In particular, where this cladding was made of Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding or plastic-based insulation products PIR or PUR were a factor in the spread of the fire.

1)      Please state the number of cases where the cladding of a building has played a contributory role to a building fire.  (This may involve searching free text sections of your incident reporting system for information.)

Please state what type of building was involved in the fire, whether it was commercial or residential and what the height of the building (as far as your recording system records) was.

Please provide information for each of the following financial years:

  • 2012/13
  • 2013/14
  • 2014/15
  • 2015/16
  • 2016/17

2)      Please check if in any incident reports specifically refer to the following materials as contributing to the fire.

a)  Aluminium Composite Material (ACM)

b)  Plastic-based insulation products PIR or PUR

Again, please state what type of building was involved in the fire, whether it was commercial or residential and what the height of the building (as far as your recording system records) was in each case.

Please provide information for each of the following financial years:

  • 2012/13
  • 2013/14
  • 2014/15
  • 2015/16
  • 2016/17
