  1. What is the helpline “Say So”?  

Response: 

 

Say So is an independent and confidential reporting line. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service has introduced this to supplement existing mechanisms for employees to raise concerns anonymously if they wish. 

In addition, all staff at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service can now make reports to Say So of any concerns in the workplace (if they feel they cannot report through internal processes) using either a free to call telephone facility, staffed by safeguarding and investigation trained staff (available 9-5 Monday to Friday or through an online reporting tool available 24/7/365). 

All we are trying to do is get people to have a voice and raise their concerns so we can make the Service a better place to work. 

Supplementary Question: You mentioned this is independent, has this been brought on by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Service recommendations? Is this your attempt at dealing with those recommendations following the HMICFRS report? 

Response:  

That is the guidance we are adhering to; this is a completely anonymous outside body that does it.  

  1. Who is Say So funded by and how much does it cost?  

 

Response:  

In collaboration with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service we have jointly procured this Say So helpline and share the annual cost which is less than £20,000 per annum. 

Supplementary Question: You say you are in partnership with Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire and one of the people who deals with this used to work for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and this is Judi Beresford, how could this possibly be independent? And how much does this cost?  

 

Response:  

It’s independent because Judi Beresford does not take any of the calls. I cannot give you the exact cost because it is a procured service, but it is less than £20,000.  

  1. What response has Say So helpline had by employees since it began?  

Response:  

To date, two reports have been received since Say So launched on 31 July 2023.  

Supplementary Question: Would you say that’s been successful?  

Response:  

Yes, I’d say it could be successful, it gives people the opportunity to report something.
