Road Safety Volunteer

Aim of the role
Our aim is to reduce road traffic collisions across the County and therefore reduce road traffic deaths and injuries throughout Derbyshire. This will aid the wider Government agendas, "Every Child Matters", "National Road Safety Targets" and will tie into to Local Area Agreements (LAA's).
Purpose of the role
Road Safety Volunteers will need to understand the ethos of Community Risk Reduction and Road Safety which is a crucial part of Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service's (DFRS) overall safety strategy.
Volunteers will, after training, feel confident to discuss road safety issues with members of the communities and will stand alongside DFRS staff and with our partners within the Derby & Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, delivering road safety messages to members of the public, especially young drivers (18-25 years).
This will be done by raising awareness of road safety matters whether it be seatbelts, mobile phones, or speed, through Engagement and Education with a range of partnerships such as Derby & Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership and supporting various Road Safety events such as the Chatsworth Rally Show.
Skills and Experience required for role
- Good interpersonal skills, e.g. providing road safety advise to a variety of age groups
- Good communication skills
- Health and Safety awareness
- Driving licence is preferable but not essential
- Experience of working or volunteering with people in the community
