Warning to take care during the torrential rain

06/07/12

Derbyshire is currently experiencing torrential rain and localised flooding. This is leading to an increased number of 999 calls being received in our Command and Control Department.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service has dealt with five incidents so far, where people have been trapped in their vehicles.

We would like to ask people to be mindful of the following safety advice:

  • Drive to the road conditions. Puddles may be deeper than they appear. Please don't take any unnecessary risks.
  • If you are experiencing flooding in your home - get yourself to a place of safety, maybe upstairs. If you are taking any medication take this with you.
  • Do not exit your property if there is fast flowing water outside.
  • If you think you are at risk of flooding visit the Environment Agency website for advice and guidance www.environment-agency.gov.uk or call Derbyshire County Council on 08456 058058 or Derby City Council on 01332 717777

As the rain continues to fall we will prioritise all emergency calls to ensure our communities are safe and receive an appropriate response.

Before calling 999, consider - How urgent is your call?
