Preventing common candle fires

Candles

Candles are a convenient and cheap form of ambient lighting, are popular for decoration, and with the advent of scented candles are popular for adding fragrance to a living space.

However candles can cause fires, please follow the tips provided to use candles safely.

  • Put candles out when you leave the room, and make sure they're put out completely at night.
  • Use a snuffer or a spoon to put out candles. It's safer than blowing them out when sparks can fly.
  • Children shouldn't be left alone with lit candles.
  • Make sure candles are placed in a holder that is inflammable, prevents the candle from falling over and is big enough for the size of csndle you are using.

Make sure candles are secured in a proper holder and away from materials that may catch fire, like curtains.

Top Tip - Be careful with candles

Don't place lit candles near objects that can catch on fire or blow into the flames, like curtains.

Don't leave lit candles alone, put them out before leaving the room.
