The Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is headed by Chief Fire Officer Sean Frayne. Chief Fire Officer Frayne joined the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service in April 1985, transferring to the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service in October 1997.

He has served in a number of diverse roles during his career including positions in training, station management, performance management, risk management, and corporate services.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer - Joy Smith

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Joy Smith joined Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2003 as the head of Human Resources moving to the post of Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Human Resources in 2006. In August 2009 she assumed the role of Deputy Chief Fire Officer and oversees the human resources and strategic development within the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.

She has worked at a number of local authorities; including Amber Valley Borough Council, Derby City Council, and South Derbyshire District Council in various roles related to strategic change management and people management.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer - Andy Waldie

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Andy Waldie joined Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service in July 2006 as Area Manager for Performance Management. Andy was appointed to the post of Temporary Deputy Chief Fire Officer on 1 April 2010 and his post was made permanent on the 1st of October 2010. Deputy Chief Fire Officer Waldie is responsible for the following divisional portfolios:

  • Prevention
  • Protection
  • Response
  • Corporate Services
  • FiReControl and Firelink

Andy commenced his career in 1983 as a firefighter with Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service. Andy was promoted to Group Manager (B) in 2004 having served in a number of reference areas ranging from Station and District Command, Fire Safety, Training and Operations Policy and Procedures.
