Derbyshires Command and Control handle over 200 calls in under 2 hours on behalf of Tyne and Wear
Flash floods and storms, hitting both the Midlands and the North East caused chaos and disruption across the region. Calls to the Tyne and Wear emergency services reached such a high volume that emergency callers were re-routed to Derbyshires Control Room Operators.
The team of four Control Room Operators worked diligently taking take hundreds of 999 calls from distressed people experiencing flooding and other emergencies.
Chief Fire Officer Tom Capeling, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, said: "I would like to thank Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service for their help and support during what was an extremely difficult and unusual situation. The number of 999 calls taken was unprecedented, and the assistance we received is much appreciated."
